Owlet CEO Kurt Workman wants his company’s tech to be accessed by all families.

Owlet chief executive officer Kurt Workman told me earlier this week the decision to start his company was born of necessity and accessibility. He started the company before his oldest child, now 10, was born due to concerns he’d inherit the same heart defect his mom has. Workman’s wife was born with the condition, but it went undiagnosed at the time. A few days later, she was rushed to the hospital by her parents after discovering she wasn’t breathing having gone into cardiac arrest. Two surgeries later, Workman said she’s “really healthy now” and the condition is fixed. Still, the topic of infant mortality haunted him.
