August 23, 2019 – by Natasha Sutton Williams
Actor and Disability Activist Beth Hinton-Lever talks to Natasha Sutton-Williams about mainstream musical theatre, grassroots creative integration and how to open the theatre industry to all.
Beth Hinton-Lever is a force of nature. Having worked professionally as an musical theatre actor for only four years, she has already reached remarkable heights, having performed on the Olivier stage in the critically acclaimed National Theatre production of Hadestown, danced in the film Men In Black: International, and starred in Graeae’s 2017 touring production of Reasons to be Cheerful.
Hinton-Lever is currently performing in the National Theatre Public Acts’ production of As You Like It at the Queen’s Theatre in Hornchurch, London. The production features over 100 people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds alongside five professional actors. In the show, Hinton-Lever plays the gender-swapped role of Jaques, stating that a particular highlight is singing an adapted version of the renowned Shakespeare monologue ‘All the world’s a stage’.
