State the presence of long descriptions from complex images

Make sure ALT attribute values of complex images announce adjacent full text descriptions

Providing an adjacent long description for a complex image is one thing, making sure users of assistive technologies are made aware that this long description is available is another. Whenever the adjacent long description of a complex image cannot be explicitly associated with the image itself, an indication of the presence of the long description needs to be provided in text.

To do so, simply use the ALT attribute value of the complex image to indicate that an adjacent description is available. As you describe the nature or purpose of the complex image, also provide an indication that a full, text description of the information conveyed in the complex image is also available right next to that image. Doing so will ensure that whenever this long description is not or cannot be programmatically tied to the image, users will still be made aware of its presence.

As a non-sighted user using assistive technology, I want ALT attribute values of complex images to also announce available adjacent long descriptions, so that I am made aware of their presence.
