Make sure a spoken version of the content is made available to users
Most people who think about screen readers and screen reader users automatically think of blind people. However, a fair number of screen reader users are actually sighted, and happen to appreciate using a screen reader when they read, because being able to hear the words as they read them makes it easier for their brains to process the information. Some users may have a cognitive disability, others may simply enjoy the fact that they can sit back and relax as they listen to the content, rather than having to actually go through the effort of reading it themselves. Whatever the reason may be, being able to rely on spoken versions of the content can really help some users.
To do so, simply make sure the page provides a verbatim of the content, using either recorded human speech or synthetic speech. Providing a button or a widget at the top of each page labeled “Read this page aloud” might be useful accommodation to users willing to listen to the page as it is spoken by a synthetic voice.
