Make sure unusual words found in content link to their definition in a glossary
Providing a glossary of unusual words, phrases or abbreviations found in content is one thing, but linking each of those objects to their respective definition in the glossary is another. While a stand-alone glossary might prove useful to users who happen to stumble across such a page, most users will only venture to a glossary if they are led there by following a link from a word or term they are unfamiliar with. Whether the glossary stands on its own or is part of the same page the unusual words appear on matters very little, as long as authors make sure a connection can be reliably and programmatically established between the word and its definition.
To do so, simply use the ANCHOR element to link the unusual term to its definition. Hyperlinks are simple, yet powerful options for providing access to the definition of a word, phrase, or abbreviation.
